I should never discourage the initial thought that I got hearing his idea of getting the job done; he may be more experienced than me but the understanding that I have, I cannot be skeptical about that either; what if it proved to be correct and I let an amazing idea go and loose a chance of promotion! You better shut up and keep your knowledge to yourself, if it was meant to come out it will, naturally, there is no necessity that you be a show-off and flaunt what you have, what if it turns out to be absolute disaster and you lose your job “Mr. Amazing Idea”! I have to; you don’t need to; but who else will; keep your ideas till your desk; how will you burgeon them; it goes on and on, in your head like a symphony of Beethoven.
While working in a firm you come across numerous hindrances and you see innumerable heads getting tired from facing problems who blames corporate culture saying it is the one where it becomes mandatory for a person to wear a face which is always agreeable with others. They are also audacious to speak how they weren’t as they are and give the credit to the firm they work in, for making them wear a mask rather than looking how they are! Most of them lag a sense of understanding that there is a thin line between two words, one being Fear and other being nervousness. Nervousness is the energy which one feels when he/she wants to have a foresight while doing any new work, will he succeed in it or fail, it indicates change and a positive growth, because it is for the first time one will step out from his area of comfort and he has the audacity to do that. Fear is a little bit negative while comparing it with nervousness, it is the knowledge that you have done something adverse and now you are supposed to pay for it.
Most crucial element is the level of chivalry used during presentation of the thought one possess on the same topic of discussion; it should be made clear that you respect the perception which is presented prior to you by anyone, be it someone higher in designation than you are, but with that element of respect you possess for the idea, there is a level of inquisitiveness which your mind compels your mouth to open up and say that I think this perception of mine goes along with it for the idea, and it helps the idea, in a way to execute it in more appropriate and easy manner, but as said prior, if you disagree to my perception, I am open to that too! It is important to know that the world forgets a criminal sooner than it does a dreamer. For a criminal mind gave a malign thought to the world and is finished now, but a dreamer gives a benign thought and is under a burden of responsibility to transform his thought into action.
It is your incomplete understanding of fear and nervousness, not the corporate culture culpable for such a nature that you’ve gained with time, which could turn worst if not taken care of. Your views can be equally/more helpful if you state them at that instant or they will get better after feeling that says “He’s got more brains than me on the matter we were sharing an opinion on” rather than getting dissatisfied by disrespecting your own views on that matter. Remember that everything we do is meant to be done so that we grow in various fields and neither corporate culture nor the firm you work for; promotes masking your opinions.
A poet named Gabriel Okara wrote a beautiful poem with a tone of sarcasm because he didn’t want anyone to carry excess baggage while sighting beauties in the travel, he wrote:
So, I have learnt many things, son.
I have learnt to wear many faces
Like dresses – home-face,
Office-face, street-face, host-face,
Cocktail-face, with all their conforming smiles
Like a fixed portrait smile.
And I have learnt, too.
To laugh with only my teeth
And shake hands without my heart.
I have also learnt to say ‘Goodbye’
When I mean ‘Good – riddance’;
To say ‘Glad to meet you’
Without being glaed; and to say ‘It’s been
Nice talking to you’, after being bored.
Innovation Beyond Imagination only comes when a person has a “never-ending” trust on his imaginations and ideologies. Such a trust is an outcome achieved when a person respects his thoughts, not only by limiting that to his/her self but also by sharing that with peers so that, after that sharing he is brave enough to face the result which can either be a scenario where in if his thoughts excel every others and are implemented or he is enlightened with the ideas of his colleague who thinks one step more than he does. Win-win condition is only available if he cares to share otherwise he loses.
